Lesson 1

In the beginning of the class Ms. Tait briefed the areas in this course, in which we are going to be focusing on. The topics were upcycling, recycling, sustainable fashion, being individual. After this briefing I could clearly distinguish the difference between upcycling and recycling. Both of them involve reusing materials but in upcycling you add value to the new product. Whereas recycling is just converting the product into something different.

Our first task was to use the old clothes/fabric provided and convert it into an outfit. The purpose of this exercise was to take some regular clothes and use them in a different way because we know how it places when you put it on right. We just had to experiment with the material and try and create something new. In this process some of our tries weren't successful, and just didn’t look good, but that was alright. Our manikin was one of our members in the group of three we were in. The reason why we used a person was because we could then develop on them even better. We took in turns for being the manikin and designing that person. I think this activity was really fun, and I got a lot of it because now I will encourage myself to think of different ways to use clothes. Other than how it suppose to be.
This Isabel.
